UTSA to compete in Bayou City Collegiate Championship this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — Coming off back-to-back top-five finishes, the UTSA men’s golf team will travel to Humble this weekend to compete at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship. The three-day tournament begins on Friday at Redstone Golf Club (par 72/6,982 yards).

The Roadrunners, who won the Rice Intercollegiate on their last trip to the Greater Houston Area on Feb. 4-5, will compete against a 15-team field that includes six nationally-ranked programs in the latest Golfstat Top 50 in second-ranked and defending NCAA Champion Texas, No. 37 and co-host Houston, No. 40 Baylor, No. 42 Chattanooga, No. 43 South Carolina and No. 48 Indiana. Other teams include Charlotte, East Carolina, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, co-host Rice and UT Arlington.

The 54-hole event tees off beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday at the site of the annual PGA Tour Shell Houston Open. The field will play another 18 holes on Saturday, followed by an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.

The Roadrunners are coming off a fifth-place showing at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational on Feb. 11-12 in San Antonio. Ryan Werre led the way with a tie for third at two-under-par 211, while sophomore Garrison Lackey tied for 10th at three-over 216.
