LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Junior Ryan Werre fired a four-under-par 67 in Monday's opening round to highlight day one action for UTSA at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, which is being played at the New Mexico State University Golf Course (par 71/7,074 yards).

Werre's season-low effort — the best score turned in by the 75-player field — was followed by a 75 in the second round and he is tied for 13th at even par 142, which is a half dozen shots off the pace set by Kansas' Chris Gilbert and UNLV's Blake Biddle. The Redcliff, Alberta, native's opening round was just one shot shy of his career-best 66, which he recorded twice during his 2010-11 freshman campaign.

Freshman Brett Hogan is one stroke behind his fellow Canadian teammate, as the Calgary native carded rounds of 71 and 72 (143) and he is tied for 17th with 18 holes remaining.

Sophomore Garrison Lackey and senior Stanton Tondre are tied for 29th (145=74-71) and 50th (149=75-74), respectively, while freshman J.J. Lindsey is tied for 73rd (157=81-76). Sophomore Reed Stegall is tied for 59th (150=79-71) competing as an individual.

The Roadrunners are in eighth place in the 12-team field after turning in an 11-over 579 (287-292). Wichita State leads at three-under 565 (283-282) and the Shockers are followed by UNLV (566), Texas State (567), UTEP (567), Kansas (570), Nebraska (572) and Oral Roberts (575).

The final round will tee off with a 9 a.m. (CT) shotgun start on Tuesday.
