SAN ANTONIO — Senior Stanton Tondre and freshman Brett Hogan both posted under-par rounds on Sunday and the UTSA men’s golf team is in third place after the opening round of the fourth annual Lone Star Invitational, which is being played at the Hill Country Resort Golf Course (par 72/6,931 yards).

Tondre recorded a trio of birdies en route to a UTSA career-best two-under-par 70. The Castroville native is tied for fourth place in the field of 84 players and just two shots off the pace set by North Texas’ Rodolfo Cazaubon, who fired a four-under 68.

Hogan was one stroke behind his teammate, as he carded a season-best one-under 71 on the strength of four birdies. The Calgary, Alberta, native is in a four-way tie for seventh with 36 holes remaining.

Tondre and Hogan helped the Roadrunners to a two-over 290, a season-best round for a par 72 course. UTSA stands six shots back of first-round leader North Texas, which turned in a four-under 284. Western Athletic Conference foe Denver is in second at one-under 287, while I-35 rival Texas State and Central Arkansas are tied for fourth at five-over 293.

Junior Ryan Werre registered a two-over 74 and is tied for 24th, while sophomore Garrison Lackey and senior Taylor Koser are tied for 39th (75) and 77th (82), respectively.

Competing as individuals, freshman J.J. Lindsey is tied for 11th after posting an even-par 72 and sophomore Reed Stegall is tied for 69th (80).

The second round is scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
