Tondre guides UTSA to 11th place at Tucker Intercollegiate

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Led by a 16th-place effort from senior Stanton Tondre, UTSA finished 11th at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Saturday at New Mexico Championship Golf Course (par 72, 7,578 yards).

Tondre entered the final round in a tie for 27th after carding a four-over-par 148 (72-76) on Friday. He recorded an eagle on the par-four 12th and added three birdies on the front nine en route to a one-over 73, finishing in a six-way tie for 16th place in the 84-player field.

The Roadrunners turned in a 305 during the final 18 holes and finished in 11th with a three-round total of 905 (301-299-305) and that was three strokes ahead of fellow Western Athletic Conference member New Mexico State (908).

No. 10 New Mexico won the team title with a 15-under 849 (283-285-281) behind individual medalist Gavin Green’s seven-under 209 (71-69-69). The host Lobos were followed by No. 21 Colorado (878) and San Francisco (886), while No. 30 Baylor, BYU and Minnesota tied for fourth (890).

Sophomore Garrison Lackey tied for 46th with a 228 (75-73-80), while junior Ryan Werre was two strokes back in 53rd with a 230 (78-77-75). Freshman Brett Hogan and senior Taylor Koser tied for 59th (231=81-73-77) and 73rd (237=76-80-81), respectively. Sophomore Reed Stegall tied for 59th (231=75-77-79) while competing as an individual.

The Roadrunners return to the course in two weeks when they host the Lone Star Invitational at the Hyatt Hill Country Golf Club. The three-day tournament tees off on Oct. 14.
