Werre leads Roadrunners to 11th place at Sam Hall Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Led by a 17th-place finish from junior Ryan Werre, the UTSA men’s golf team finished 11th at the season-opening Sam Hall Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Hattiesburg Country Club (par 71/6,882 yards).

Werre entered the final round in a nine-way tie for 17th place after registering a one-over 143 (71-72) on Monday. The Redcliff, Alberta, native used three birdies to card an even-par 71 and stay in 17th (one-over 214) in the 87-player field.

Senior Stanton Tondre also posted a top-25 showing after recording a one-over 72 to complete a two-over 215 and tie for 21st. Senior Taylor Koser tied for 49th with a 221 (75-72-74), while freshmen J.J. Lindsey (79-73-74—226) and Brett Hogan (75-73-78—226) tied for 69th. Sophomore Reed Stegall tied for 60th (224) after turning in an even-par 71 in the final 18.

The Roadrunners turned in an 872 to place 11th in the team standings, three shots ahead of Louisiana-Monroe (875) and also in front of Arkansas State (878), Rice (883) and McNeese State (900).

Mississippi won the team title by one stroke with a seven-under 845. The Rebels edged Mississippi State (846) and South Alabama (850). Meanwhile, Louisiana Tech’s Victor Lange secured the individual crown with an eight-under 205 (68-67-70).

UTSA returns to the course in two-and-a-half weeks when it competes at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M. The two-day tournament tees off on Friday, Sept. 28.
