BRYAN — Freshman Ryan Werre matched his season low by firing a six-under-par 66 in Saturday's first round at the Aggie Invitational, which is being play at the Traditions Club (par 72, 7146 yards).

Werre's opening 18 was the best posted by any player in either round. The Redcliff, Alberta, native recorded four birdies and an eagle on the par-five fifth to offset his lone bogey in carding a five-under 31 on the front nine. He added a birdie on the par-five 15th in tallying the 66, which matched his opening-round at February's Rice Intercollegiate.

Werre shot a seven-over 79 in the second round and is a five-way tie for fifth place at one-over 145 with 18 holes remaining. That group is six shots behind the pace set by Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein, who turned in a 139 (72-67).

Meanwhile, the Roadrunners are in 11th place after posting a 795 (390-405) in the unique scoring format that takes the five best scores from six-player teams. No. 9 Texas A&M leads at 729 (370-359) and the Aggies are followed by top-ranked Oklahoma State (737) and No. 17 Texas Tech (748).

Sophomore Mitchell Griffin is tied for 30th after registering a 152 (75-77), while senior Lewis Chong is two shots behind him in a tie for 37th after carding a pair of 77s. Sophomore Austin Struble is in 70th (82-87=169), sophomore Taylor Koser is in 71st (90-87=177) and freshman Xabier Basanez is in 72nd (98-85=183).

Round three is slated to be played on Sunday.
