Roadrunners ninth after 36 holes of Jim West Intercollegiate

VICTORIA — Senior Lewis Chong and sophomore Mitchell Griffin are tied for ninth place after 36 holes of the Jim West Intercollegiate,. The second round was played on Monday at the Victoria Country Club (par 72, 6,870 yards).
 
Chong and Griffin both have carded one-over-par 73s in each of the first two rounds and are just two strokes out of fourth place with 18 holes remaining. Louisiana Tech's Sam Forgan and Southeastern Louisiana's Philipp Westermann are tied for the individual lead at six-under 138.
 
The Roadrunners are in ninth place at 26-over 602 in the 15-team field after turning in rounds of 298 and 304. UTSA is just one shot behind South Alabama and six strokes out of the top five. Louisiana Tech (576) holds a two-shot lead over Southeastern Louisiana (578), while College of Charleston is in third (588).
 
Freshman Ryan Were followed Monday’s 75 with a 76 and is tied for 34th, while sophomore Nicko Dodd is tied for 71st (77-82=159). Sophomore Austin Struble is 83rd (81-86=167).
 
The final round will be played on Tuesday morning.
