Roadrunners in fifth place after first day of Jim West Intercollegiate
VICTORIA — Led by a pair of 73s from senior Lewis Chong and sophomore Mitchell Griffin, the UTSA men's golf team is in fifth place after the opening day of the Jim West Intercollegiate.
Chong and Griffin each toured the 6,870-yard, par 72 Victoria Country Club layout in one-over-par in hot and windy conditions on Sunday and, as a result, are tied for 11th place, five shots off the pace set by UT Arlington's Wes Worster (68).
The Roadrunners carded a 10-over 298 and are in fifth place in the 15-team field. Louisiana Tech leads the way at one-under 287, followed by Southeastern Louisiana and Louisiana-Lafayette (293) and Stephen F. Austin (297).
Freshman Ryan Werre fired a three-over 75 and is tied for 24th, while sophomore Nicko Dodd is tied for 42nd after recording a 77. Sophomore Austin Struble turned in an 81 and is tied for 72nd.
