UTSA wraps up Morris Williams Intercollegiate in 14th place

AUSTIN — Led by a 43rd-place showing from sophomore Mitchell Griffin, the UTSA men's golf team finished in 14th place at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday at The University of Texas Golf Club.

The Roadrunners carded a 312 to better Monday's rounds of 324 and 317 and they finished with a 54-hole total of 953.

Griffin, who entered the final day in a tie for 20th, turned in an 81 and tied for 43rd with a three-round total of 234 (75-78-81).

Freshman Ryan Werre registered a 239 (81-76-82) for 62nd place, while senior Lewis Chong and sophomore Nicko Dodd tied for 66th (82-84-74=240) and 69th (87-79-75=241), respectively. Freshman Eddie DeVane was 79th (86-89-83=258).

No. 13 Texas (892) edged No. 19 Texas Tech (894) for the team title, while No. 15 Arkansas was third (900). TCU's Tom Hoge won individual medalist honors with a 215 (73-68-74).

UTSA returns to the course next week at the Jim West Intercollegiate in Victoria. The three-day tournament begins on Sunday, April 10.
