Alley leads Roadrunners on first day of Wyoming Cowboys Classic

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Bryce Alley is in the top 10 of the individual standings and the UTSA men's golf team is in 11th place after the first two rounds of the Wyoming Cowboys Classic, which was held Monday at Talking Stick Golf Club (par 70/7,133 yards).

Alley opened the 54-hole event with a one-over-par 71 and roared back with a three-under 67 in round two to put himself in a tie for ninth place at two-under 138 with 18 holes remaining on Tuesday. The freshman from Longview posted eight birdies on the day, including six in the afternoon, and he leads all players in par-four scoring (3.79/-5). Alley is five shots off the pace of seven-under 133 (68-65) set by Sean Walsh of Gonzaga.

The Roadrunners registered an eight-over 288 in each round and they are in 11th place (576), only three strokes behind Kansas State, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara. No. 11 Oklahoma leads the 21-team field at even-par 560 (275-285), followed by No. 39 BYU (561), Colorado (561), Utah (562), Gonzaga (565), UC Davis (571) and Santa Clara (572).

Ryan Werre posted rounds of 74 and 72 on the strength of a half dozen birdies and the senior is in a tie for 48th at six-over 146. Garrison Lackey (70-78—148) and J.J. Lindsey (73-75—148) are two shots back in a tie for 58th, while Brett Hogan is 71st (75-74—149).

The third and final round is slated for a 9:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start on Tuesday.
