Roadrunners place sixth at Louisiana Classics
LAFAYETTE, La. — Led by top-20 finishes from Bryce Alley and Ryan Werre, the UTSA men's golf team placed sixth at the Louisiana Classics, which concluded Tuesday at Oakbourne Country Club (par 72/6,898 yards).
Alley and Werre finished in a five-way tie for 20th at three-over par for the 54-hole event. Alley posted a final-round 72 en route to a 219 (76-71-72) that included a team-high 12 birdies, as the freshman registered his second top 20 in the last three outings. Werre closed the tournament with a 73 as part of a 219 (75-71-73) and the senior posted 10 birdies in the 17th top-20 showing of his UTSA career.
J.J. Lindsey was two shots behind that pair with a five-over 221 (76-70-75) in tying for 30th, while Brett Hogan and Garrison Lackey tied for 53rd (72-75-80—227) and 60th (81-71-78—230), respectively. Reed Stegall was 67th (79-76-79—234) competing as an individual.
In the team standings, the Roadrunners turned in a 16-over 880 (299-283-298) to finish sixth in the 12-team field. UTSA was just one shot behind No. 47 New Mexico State (879) and three in front of Conference USA foe Tulsa (883).
No. 9 Illinois claimed the team title with a 25-under 839 (279-270-290), followed by No. 33 LSU (845), host Louisiana-Lafayette (868) and Louisiana Tech (872).
Myles Lewis of LSU, who competed as an individual, rallied to win the individual crown, as he fired a six-under 66 in the final round to finish at 10-under 206.
The Roadrunners will travel to Laredo this weekend to compete at the Border Olympics. The two-day event is scheduled to begin on Friday at Laredo Country Club.
