Roadrunners in ninth place at Jerry Pate Intercollegiate
VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — Led by an opening-day 145 (72-73) from Garrison Lackey, UTSA is in ninth place after 36 holes of the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, which began on Monday at Old Overton Country Club (par 70/7,204 yards).
Lackey, a junior from Weslaco, is in a seven-way tie for 20th place at five-over-par after turning in a pair of rounds that saw him record five birdies.
Behind Lackey's day, the Roadrunners carded a 589 (295-294), which is nine shots behind No. 19 Vanderbilt for eighth place in a field that includes nine top-50 teams, eight of which are in the top 30. Fourth-ranked and defending champion Alabama holds the 36-hole lead at eight-under 552, followed by No. 2 Texas A&M (562), No. 27 Texas (564), No. 10 UAB (565) and No. 29 Arkansas (574).
Bryce Alley (75-73) and Brett Hogan (74-74) are tied for 39th after turning in a 148s. Ryan Werre (74-75—149) and J.J. Lindsey (75-74—149) are one shot back in a tie for 43rd.
UAB's Wilson McDonald holds a four-shot lead in the individual standings after registering an eight-under 132 (65-67).
The final round is scheduled to get underway at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
