Lindsey leads UTSA to eighth at Jim West Intercollegiate
McKINNEY — J.J. Lindsey tied for seventh place to lead the UTSA men’s golf team to an eighth-place showing at the Jim West Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Tuesday at TPC Craig Ranch (par 72/7,417 yards).
Lindsey entered the final round in a tie for 19th place after carding a six-over-par 150 (73-77) on Monday. The freshman from Adkins posted a 72 in a final round that was highlighted by four birdies to move into a five-way tie for seventh at six-over 222. It marked the first top-10 finish of his debut season.
Garrison Lackey tied for 24th with a 288 (71-79-78), while Brett Hogan (70-81-79—230) and Stanton Tondre (75-77-78—230) tied for 32nd in the 60-player field. Ryan Werre was one stroke behind in 37th (74-76-81—231) and Mitchell Griffin tied for 24th (74-74-80—228) competing as an individual.
The Roadrunners were eighth with a three-round total of 904 (288-309-307), which was just two shots behind Florida Gulf Coast (902). No. 36 Vanderbilt won the team title with an 885 (294-299-292), followed by Oral Roberts (892), UALR (893), Texas State (894), Stephen F. Austin (897) and Ball State (898).
Bryce Emory of Northern Illinois defeated TCU's Sarosh Adi in a sudden-death playoff to claim the individual title, as both finished at even-par 216.
UTSA will compete at the Western Athletic Conference Championship from April 29-May 1 in Henderson, Nev.
