Werre tied for lead after two rounds of UTSA Oak Hills Invitational
SAN ANTONIO — Ryan Werre is tied for the individual lead and UTSA is in third place after 36 holes of the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational, which opened on Monday at Oak Hills Country Club (par 71/6,765 yards).
Werre opened the 54-hole tournament with a two-under-par 69 and matched that in the second round, and the junior is in a tie for the top spot with North Texas' Rodolfo Cazaubon (70-68) at four-under 138. The Redcliff, Alberta, native wrote down nine birdies on the day and he now has recorded four sub-70 rounds this season and seven in his three-year career.
Werre’s effort helped put UTSA in third place with 18 holes remaining. The Roadrunners carded an even-par 284 in the first round and a 291 on the second 18 for a seven-over 575. The Birds are just one stroke behind No. 44 Oklahoma (289-285—574) for second and four shots off the pace set by No. 36 North Texas (284-287—571). No. 40 Baylor is right on UTSA’s heels in fourth (289-288—577) and No. 49 Wichita State rounds out the top five (291-292—583).
Meanwhile, Werre and Cazaubon have a one-shot lead over Baylor's Kyle Jones, who turned in a 69-70—139. North Texas’ Carlos Ortiz is the only other player under par, as he is in fourth place at one-under 69-72—141.
Garrison Lackey is in a tie for ninth after registering a two-over 70-74—144, while Brett Hogan is tied for 34th (76-72—148). Stanton Tondre (71-79—150) and J.J. Lindsey (74-76—150) are tied for 44th.
The Roadrunners also have five players competing as individuals.
Reed Stegall is tied for 52nd (76-76—152), Mitchell Griffin is tied for 60th (79-75—154), Taylor Koser is tied for 74th (75-83—158), Martin Board is tied for 79th (81-79—160) and Xabier Basanez is tied for 81st (85-76—161).
The final round is scheduled to tee off at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
