LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Junior Ryan Werre fired his second sub-70 round in as many days to lead UTSA to a sixth-place finish at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday at the New Mexico State University Golf Course (par 71/7,074 yards).

Werre carded a two-under-par 69 in the final round, one day after posting a season-best 67 in the opening 18 holes, and the Redcliff, Alberta, native finished in a five-way tie for seventh place at two-under 211. He was six strokes off the winning pace set by Kansas' Chris Gilbert and Blake Biddle of UNLV, who both finished at eight-under 205. Werre wrapped up the fall campaign by posting his top two rounds, 54-hole total and finish of the season.

Werre's performance helped lead the Roadrunners to their top score and finish of the fall. UTSA registered a three-under 281 in the final round and an eight-over 860 for the tournament to finish sixth, bettering their previous best of 20-over 872 at the season-opening Sam Hall Intercollegiate and their seventh-place showing at last week's Lone Star Invitational.

The Roadrunners were just one shot behind Kansas (859) for fifth in the 12-team field. Wichita State claimed the team title with an 11-under 841, followed by UNLV (850), UTEP (851) and Texas State (853).

Werre was not the only Roadrunner who turned in a season-best performance, as freshman Brett Hogan tied for 15th after posting a one-over 214 (71-72-71). Meanwhile, senior Stanton Tondre carded a season-low 67 in the final round en route to tying for 22nd at three-over 216.

Sophomore Garrison Lackey tied for 59th (74-71-80—225) and freshman J.J. Lindsey placed 71st (81-76-74—231), while sophomore Reed Stegall tied for 62nd (79-71-77—227) competing as an individual.

The Roadrunners are off until they tee off the spring season at the Rice Intercollegiate in Houston (Feb. 4-5).
