UTSA men collect half dozen medals at J. Fred Duckett Twilight

HOUSTON — The UTSA men's track & field team recorded a half dozen top-three performances at Saturday's J. Fred Duckett Twilight, which was contested at Rice's Holloway Field and Ley Track.

Junior Albert Cardenas led a 1-2-3 Roadrunners finish in the metric mile with his 3:50.92 clocking. Freshman Mike Medrano (PR 3:53.01) and junior Cole Reveal (3:56.60) were second and third, respectively.

Meanwhile, senior Canel Cole clocked a personal-best time of 1:51.59 in a runner-up performance (top collegian) in the 800m. That is just seven one-hundredths of a second shy of the current Southland Conference lead held by freshman teammate Crisshun Jamerson, who finished fourth in 1:51.71.

Senior Kyle Kaase earned a silver medal in the javelin with his personal-best toss of 195-2 (59.49m). That added more than four feet to his previous PR (190-11/58.19m) and he ranks fourth on the school's all-time performer's list.

Junior Daniel Rodriguez recorded a pair of strong performances in the throwing events. The Breckenridge native placed second in the discus with a toss of 162-11 (49.65m), while his shot put measurement of 54-2 ½ (16.52m) was good for fourth.

UTSA will be back in action next Saturday, April 30, at the Bobcats Invitational in San Marcos.
