Brunette earns Conference USA All-Academic accolades
IRVING — Nate Brunette was one of 13 men's track & field athletes that were named to Conference USA's All-Academic team on Wednesday.
The senior from Humble, who maintains a 3.79 GPA in civil engineering, has seen action at eight outdoor meets this season and will compete in three events — 100 meters, 200 meters and 400-meter relay — at this weekend's NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds in Fayetteville, Ark.
He helped lead the Roadrunners to the Conference USA Championships two weeks ago in Houston, which was the seventh team title of his career.
Brunette ran the second leg of UTSA's fourth-place 400m relay that clocked a season-best time of 40.09 in addition to placing fifth in the deuce (21.33) and seventh in the 100m (10.67), which gave him a combined eight-and-a-half points at the four-day meet.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder has won three events this season. He raced to a gold medal in the 200m at the Roadrunners Invitational (May 2) and was a member of the winning 400m relay at the Islanders Open (March 15) and Roadrunners Invite. Brunette owns season bests of 10.47 (100m) and 21.06 (200m).
His previous academic honors include being a 2011 first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District VI honoree, 2013 Western Athletic Conference All-Academic selection and two-time Southland Conference All-Academic pick.
