SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's and women's track & field teams will be back in action this weekend at the Texas A&M 10-Team Invitational.
Abilene Christian, Baylor, Louisiana Tech, Rice, SMU (women), TCU, Texas State, UT Arlington will join the Roadrunners and the host Aggies at the meet, which is scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday at Gilliam Indoor Track & Field Stadium in College Station. Two events — the 5,000 meters and distance medley relay — will take place on Friday evening.
The Roadrunners saw five athletes record second-place finishes at last Saturday's Houston Opener. Evelyn Clark (200m), Ernestine Cray (long jump), Whitney Flannel (high jump), Grace Kohler (5k) and Nina Herrera (800m) all earned silver medals at the Roadrunners' second meet of the season.
Meanwhile, Andrew Akens finished as the top collegian in the shot put to lead the men. The junior from Mesquite finished second only to Hayden Baillio (unattached) with a career-long measurement of 59-2 ¼ (18.04m). That was the second-best mark in program history and four feet better than his previous career best established at last season's Western Athletic Conference Championships.
