Rockett named Topps Pioneer League Player of the Month
SAN ANTONIO — Former Roadrunners outfielder Daniel Rockett recently was named the Topps Pioneer League Player of the Month for August for his play with the Idaho Falls Chukars.
Rockett, who is in his first season with the Kansas City Royals' Rookie-level affiliate, hit .352 with six home runs and 22 RBIs during the month to lead the Chukars into the Pioneer League playoffs. Idaho Falls will take on the Helena Brewers in a winner-take-all championship game at 8 p.m. (CT) on Tuesday.
The Sugar Land native was a second-team all-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) honoree following a 2013 senior season that saw him hit .328 with 13 doubles, a pair of triples, 10 homers and 48 RBIs. He helped lead UTSA to WAC Tournament Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament Corvallis (Ore.) Regional.
Rockett became second-highest Roadrunner ever to be drafted when Kansas City tabbed him with the eighth pick of the ninth round (264th overall) during June's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Following his duties with Idaho Falls, he will join former teammate Riley Good in the Arizona Instructional League.
