Houston Baptist downs UTSA in season opener, 1-0
HOUSTON — Natalie Hager scored the match’s only goal in the 52nd minute and Houston Baptist defeated UTSA on Friday night in the regular season opener for both squads.
The Roadrunners out-shot the Huskies, 11-6, including a 7-4 edge in the second half, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
The teams combined for just six shots in the opening period and the match remained scoreless until Hager’s strike, which was set up by Cindy Hedden.
Houston Baptist goalie Shelby Horn made seven saves in the contest, including five in the second half, to preserve the shutout.
UTSA opens its home slate at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Dayton (0-1).
