SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's track & field team will send four athletes that will compete in a total of five events to this weekend's NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds. The three-day meet is scheduled to begin on Thursday at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas (click here for the complete schedule).

The Roadrunners will be represented by Ernestine Cray, Whitney Flannel, Nina Herrera and Lindsey Pew.

Cray, the squad's only double qualifier, will compete in both the long and triple jumps. The senior from San Antonio is coming off a pair of fourth-place finishes in both events at the Conference USA Championships that saw her record season-best measurements. She broke the sand in 19-11 (6.07m) in the long jump and skipped to a mark of 41-11 ¼ (12.78m) at the postseason meet in Houston.

Meanwhile, Flannel registered her fifth consecutive top-three finish in the high jump with a bronze-medal performance two weeks ago at the C-USA Championships. The junior from West Columbia now owns three wins, three seconds and a third in nine meets this spring. She cleared a career-best 5-10 ½ (1.79m) in a winning effort back on May 2 at the Roadrunners Invitational and that ranks her 13th in the field of 48.

Herrera earned a spot in the 1,500 meters field by virtue of her personal-record time of 4:25.15 registered back in April at the Florida Relays. The senior from El Paso raced to a third-place finish (4:31.93) two weekends ago at the league meet.

Pew qualified for the national meet by virtue of her program-record clearance of 13-6 ¼ (4.12m) at last month's Texas Invitational. The junior transfer from Mesa, Ariz., is coming off a fourth-place showing (12-6 ¾/3.83m) at the conference meet.

Each field will be cut in half after the first round and top 12 finishers in the quarterfinals will advance to the NCAA Championships semifinals at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The final two rounds will be contested from June 11-14.
