SAN MARCOS — Senior Dana Mecke's victory in the 800 meters highlighted UTSA's weekend of action at the two-day Bobcat Classic.
The Southland Conference leading Mecke circled the Texas State Track & Field Stadium oval twice in 2:08.86 to win her specialty event by nearly two seconds in the 34-woman field.
Meanwhile, junior Eboni Johnson placed second but as the top collegian in triple jump with a wind-aided measurement of 40-7 ½ (12.38m). That matched her personal record set a year ago and she moved into a tie for third place on the league leaderboard.
Junior Zaquita McClanahan also finished second in shot put with her heave of 48-8 (14.83m). It was her third consecutive second-place performance and she now has placed in top three in all five outings this season and seven of her last eight dating back to last spring.
Senior Courtney Nelson was the Roadrunners' other top-three performer following her bronze medal in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:34.08).
