NATCHITOCHES, La. — Senior Aimee Jonas scored a combined six-and-half points on the strength of fourth- and sixth-place finishes in high jump and heptathlon, respectively, on Saturday and the UTSA women's track & field team remained in fifth place in the team standings at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.

Jonas' day began with three points in the final multi-event competition of her career. The La Vernia native scored 4,697 points and just missed her personal best set at this meet three years ago by 49. She went on to clear 5-3 ¼ (1.61m) in the high jump to finish in a four-way tie for fourth, which was good for another three-and-a-half points.

The Roadrunners have racked up 29.5 points through eight scored events. Two-time defending champion Stephen F. Austin has scored 63.5 and stretched its lead out 14.5 over host Northwestern State (49). Texas State is third with 38 points and Nicholls sits in fourth (36).

UTSA received a combined eight points in the day's final event, the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Freshman Samantha Fish placed fifth in a career-best 11:09.45 (No. 2 on program's all-time performers chart), while sophomores Courtney Nelson (pr 11:17.79) and Jessica Bitterly (11:19.52) finished sixth and eighth, respectively.

In the field, the Birds received four more points courtesy of sophomore Zaquita McClanahan, who finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 46-8 ¼ (14.23m). They also collected a combined six in the long jump when sophomore Jessica Edwards (wind-aided 18-9/5.71m) and freshman Krystal Wynn (windy 18-7 ¼/5.67m) placed fifth and seventh, respecitvely.

UTSA also saw three of its athletes — freshmen Nina Herrera (1,500m), Jhorden Hunters (100m) and Grace Williamson (800m) — advance to the running finals.

The three-day meet concludes on Sunday.
