The UTSA track & field squads will head up IH-35 on Saturday for the Bobcats Invitational, which will be their final tuneup for the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships (May 13-15 in Natchitcohes, La.).
The meet in San Marcos is slated to begin with hammer throw at 2:30 p.m. today, while the rest of the competition will be held on Saturday. Field events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with the javelin throw and will conclude six hours later with the shot put. The Roadrunners men enter their final weekend with four athletes atop the league leaderboards.
Senior All-American Devon Bond ranks 11th nationally with his 52-4 ½ (15.96m) measurement in the triple jump. Meanwhile, sophomore Keith Benford stands 14th in the high jump (UTSA-record 7-1 ¾/2.18m) and freshman Keyunta Hayes is 25th in the country with his conference-best time of 13.88 in the 110-meter hurdles. Sophomore Darryl Wyrick is the team's other Southland leader with his 51.82 clocking in the 400m hurdles.
On the women's side, sophomore Katie Bragg continues to sit atop the hammer standings (program-record 178-1/54.28m). All told, UTSA owns 13 marks that rank among the top four in the conference.
