FRISCO — Sophomore Katie Bragg, who opened the outdoor campaign with school record in the hammer at last weekend's Victor Lopez Classic, was named Southland Conference Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Bragg hurled the implement 172-4 (52.52m) to break her previous career best by 10 inches and her mark ranks second in the circuit this season. The Peachtree City, Ga., native defeated Rice's Tina Robinson by two feet, nine inches to win the second gold medal of her young career.

UTSA swept the conference's two awards this week, as sophomore Keith Benford was honored on the men's side.

The Roadrunners return to action on Friday when they compete at the Trinity Alumni Classic.
