UTSA women to compete at Conference USA Championships
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA's women's track & field team will begin postseason competition this weekend when it competes at the Conference USA Championships. The four-day meet is scheduled to get underway on Thursday with the two-day heptathlon at the Holloway Track Complex on the campus of Rice.
The first field event final begins with the hammer at 5 p.m. on Friday and the 10,000 meters is scheduled for 8 p.m. that night. Selected field event finals are slated to start at 3 p.m. on Saturday, the track preliminary heats will be contested two hours later and the 3,000m steeplechase will wrap up the third day of competition. Sunday's action will kick off at 2:30 p.m. with the remainder of the field events and the running finals will start two hours later (click here for complete meet information and this weekend's schedule).
Three Roadrunners come into the meet in second place in the league standings.
Nina Herrera clocked a career-best time of 4:25.15 in the 1,500m at Florida Relays back on April 4.
Meanwhile, Whitney Flannel owns a personal-record clearance of 5-10 ½ (1.79m) in a winning performance two weeks ago at the Roadrunners Invitational.
Lindsey Pew recorded a program-record mark of 13-6 ¼ (4.12m) en route to a bronze medal at last month's Texas Invitational.
All told, UTSA has registered 24 gold medals through the season's first 10 meets.
The Roadrunners have won a total of five conference crowns and 61 individual/relay championships in school history.
