UTSA, Texas State announce eight-game football series on Friday
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA and Texas State jointly announced Friday that they have agreed to play an eight-game football series. The I-35 rivals will play in 2017-18 and again from 2020-25 with four contests taking place at each team's home stadium.
"We are excited that we will be playing a long-term series with Texas State," head coach Larry Coker said. "Although we have played just one time in our first three years, we think this could build into a rivalry like it has in our other sports. I'm sure our fans are looking forward to the eight games just as much as we are."
The series will kick off at Bobcat Stadium on Sept. 23, 2017, and the first game at the Alamodome will be played the following season on Sept. 22, 2018.
Those two contests replace UTSA's previously scheduled mtachups against Colorado State. The Roadrunners still will face the Rams on Sept. 26, 2015, in the Alamo City and again the following fall on Sept. 10, 2016, in Fort Collins, Colo.
After taking a break in 2019, the two squads will resume play on Sept. 12, 2020, in San Marcos before returning to San Antonio for a Sept. 11, 2021, tilt.
The other two games at Texas State will take place on Sept. 10, 2022, and Sept. 7, 2024, while UTSA will host the Bobcats on Sept. 9, 2023, and Sept. 6, 2025.
The teams previously have met once on the gridiron, with the Roadrunners defeating Texas State by a score of 38-31 on Nov. 24, 2012, at the Alamodome when both programs were members of the Western Athletic Conference.
UTSA posted a 7-5 overall record and 6-2 mark in its inaugural campaign as a member of Conference USA a year ago.
