Ianno named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week
IRVING — Sean Ianno was named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. He is the first Roadrunner to win a C-USA Football weekly honor.
Ianno's third game-winning field goal of his three-year career propelled UTSA to a 10-7 come-from-behind victory against then-West Division leader Tulane on Saturday. The junior from Pflugerville connected on a 34-yarder with 14 seconds to play, as the Roadrunners rallied from a 7-0 halftime deficit with 10 second-half points for their third consecutive victory. His lone extra point of the day extended his streak without a miss to 84, which is the sixth-longest active stretch in the country.
Ianno now has connected on all 32 of his PATs and 8-of-13 field goals this season, which gives him a team-leading 56 points, and he also has 20 touchbacks on his 49 kickoffs.
It marked the second weekly award of Ianno's career, as he was tabbed Western Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week last Sept. 3.
East Carolina quarterback Shane Carden was tabbed the circuit's Offensive Player of the Week and Louisiana Tech defensive back Adairius Barnes was the defensive honoree.
UTSA (5-5, 4-2 C-USA), which is off this weekend, will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 23, when it travels north to face West Division-leading North Texas (7-3, 5-1 C-USA) in a key 2:30 p.m. contest at Apogee Stadium.
