SAN ANTONIO — Head coach Larry Coker announced Saturday that freshman cornerback Bennett Okotcha has transferred from Oklahoma. The younger brother of current Roadrunners running back Evans Okotcha must sit out the 2012 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but he will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning next fall.

Okotcha redshirted as a true freshman for the Sooners last year. Prior to joining Oklahoma, the 6-foot, 175-pounder was a highly-decorated player at Coppell High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

He was three-star recruit who earned second-team Class 5A all-state, first-team all-area (The Dallas Morning News) and first-team All-District 7-5A honors as a senior. Okotcha recorded 37 tackles, intercepted three passes and broke up 13 that season in helping lead the Cowboys to a 13-1 record and a berth in the UIL 5A Division I state quarterfinals. He registered a pair of picks and also caught nine passes for 142 yards and a touchdown en route to all-district accolades as a junior.

"We're very excited to bring Bennett into our program," Coker said. "We already knew a lot about him because of Evans. He is a very talented player who will help us meet our needs at an important position as we move into Conference USA in 2013."

Coker also released his team's depth chart for the upcoming season opener at South Alabama on Saturday and it is available, along with an updated roster, in the related links box at the top right of this release. The Roadrunners and Jaguars will play at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
