SAN ANTONIO – UTSA head football coach Larry Coker announced Wednesday that the program has signed Brandon Reeves (Santa Clarita, Calif./Canyon HS/Pierce [Calif.] JC) to a National Letter of Intent. Dec. 15 is the first day junior college players are allowed to submit their letters and Reeves will report to campus for the Spring 2011 semester.

Reeves is a 6-2, 220-pound linebacker from Pierce College, located in Woodland Hills, Calif., where he was a two-year starter for head coach Efrain Martinez. He was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection as a sophomore. Reeves racked up a team-leading 103 tackles, including 59 solos and 11 for loss, to help the Brahmas to an 8-3 overall record this past season. Pierce posted a 5-1 mark to win the Pacific Conference title, which is in the American Division of the SCFA, and capped its season with a 58-36 victory against San Bernardino Valley to capture the American Championship Bowl, a game which saw Reeves post five stops and block two punts. A first-team all-conference pick as a freshman, Reeves finished his two-year career with 202 career stops (nearly 10 per game) to become the school’s all-time leader.

“Brandon Reeves is an excellent player who was heavily recruited, so we are very happy he signed with us today,” Coker said. “He can run and make plays, which is what you want a linebacker to do.”

Reeves attended Canyon High School, where he helped the Cowboys win the 2006 CIF Division I State Championship against perennial power Concord De La Salle.

He will have two years of eligibility plus a redshirt season (if necessary) at UTSA.
