Freshman wide receiver Earon Holmes stole the show offensively during UTSA's inaugural scrimmage on Wednesday night. The San Antonio native (Brackenridge HS) caught three passes for 69 yards, both of which were team highs. He hauled in the first touchdown of the night, a 26-yarder from redshirt freshman Eric Soza, on the opening drive and he later added a spectacular diving snare from Soza that went for 34 yards. Holmes checked in with after the scrimmage to talk about the night's festivities.

How do you think the first scrimmage went?
“I came in kind of nervous, but as I got into the flow of things, I saw the pace goes a lot faster than it did high school.”

Can you give us a breakdown of the touchdown pass you caught?
“I don't want to say it felt like my first college touchdown, but in a sense, it did. It felt good getting into the end zone because I've learned that we have some really good defenders on this team."

How did the defense play into your scheme of things?
“It wasn't our first time hitting, but it was good and, luckily, I didn't get hit very much.”

Although you performed well tonight, what are some areas you can improve upon?
“I have to improve my route running and I definitely need to hit the weight room. I really want to get bigger and just stay focused on improving each day. If I do those things, I'm pretty sure I'll be where I need to be.”

How did the coaches prepare for tonight’s scrimmage?
“Throughout the first week of practices, the biggest thing they have been telling us to do is simply execute. We have to do what the play says and nothing different. By going 100 percent and executing, we'll make the play when we have to.”
