Roadrunners unveil 2014-15 women’s basketball schedule on Monday
SAN ANTONIO — Seventeen home contests, three tournaments and a full slate of 18 Conference USA games highlight the 2014-15 women’s basketball schedule that was released by second-year head coach Lubomyr Lichonczak on Monday.
“Our players and staff are excited for the upcoming season,” said Lichonczak. “The non-conference schedule will provide us with many challenges that will be good tests for our experienced group. We’re also pleased with some home-and-home sets within the conference, which will be exciting for both our student-athletes and fan base.”
The Roadrunners will face 10 postseason teams from a season ago and play 11 contests against teams that ranked in the top 150 of the final Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) rankings.
UTSA will open its season with a pair of exhibition games against McMurry (Nov. 1) and Howard Payne (Nov. 8) at the Convocation Center before tipping off the regular season at Texas (Nov. 15) for the second consecutive campaign.
The Roadrunners will host Abilene Christian (Nov. 19) in their regular season home opener and then will take to the road for a matchup at former Southland Conference foe Lamar (Nov. 23).
UTSA will be play three of its next four at home, including contests against Drake (Nov. 28) and Incarnate Word (Nov. 30) as part of its annual UTSA Thanksgiving Classic. The Birds then will hit the road for a tilt at UT Arlington (Dec. 2) before closing the stretch by hosting I-35 rival Texas State (Dec. 4).
The Birds will take to the road again for three games in three days for a tournament hosted by Texas Tech (Dec. 19-21) and follow that up with home contests against South Dakota (Dec. 28) and SIU Edwardsville (Dec. 29) as part of the UTSA Holiday Classic to close non-conference action.
UTSA’s second season as a member of C-USA will feature home-and-home tilts with Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, Southern Miss and UTEP, while it will face the other eight league members once during the slate.
The league schedule begins with back-to-back home games against Rice (Jan. 2) and North Texas (Jan. 4) before a three-game road swing at Southern Miss (Jan. 8), Louisiana Tech (Jan. 10) and UTEP (Jan. 17).
Other home dates include contests against Marshall (Jan. 22), Western Kentucky (Jan. 24), FIU (Feb. 5), Florida Atlantic (Feb. 7), UTEP (Feb. 21), Southern Miss (Feb. 26) and Louisiana Tech (Feb. 28). Meanwhile, the Birds will face defending league champion Middle Tennessee (Jan. 29), UAB (Jan. 31), Old Dominion (Feb. 12), Charlotte (Feb. 14), Rice (March 5) and North Texas (March 7) on the road.
The league’s top 12 teams will vie for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament at the C-USA Tournament, which will be contested from March 11-14 in Birmingham, Ala.
