SAN ANTONIO — After taking a week off from competition, the UTSA men's cross country team will put a three-meet winning streak on the line on Saturday morning when it runs at the 24th annual Chile Pepper Fesitival in Fayetteville, Ark.
The 10,000-meter race will start at 9:45 a.m. All told, there will be 37 teams competing and more than 300 athletes representing their schools.
The meet will serve as the squad's final tune-up for the Western Athletic Conference Championships, which will be contested in two weeks in Ruston, La.
Sophomore Mike Medrano won his third consecutive individual title and he helped lead the Roadrunners to their third straight team championship two weeks ago at the Grass Routes Grand Prix in Austin.
Medrano covered the 7,500-meter Hancock Golf Course loop in 25:22 and he easily won by more than 19 seconds. The Mission native now has been UTSA's top finisher at all four meets this fall.
