MCKINNEY — Junior-to-be Taylor Newlin posted a pair of match
play wins on Thursday in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the Women's Texas Golf
Association (WTGA) State Amateur Championship, which is being played on the Dye
Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.
Newlin edged Dallas native Talia Campbell 2 and 1 in the morning's quarterfinal round to
advance to the afternoon semifinal. There she faced five-time state amateur and
2010 USGA Senior Women's Amatuer Champion Mina Hardin.
The Frisco native came away with a 5 and 4 victory to advance
to Friday's championship match, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. In the
other semifinal, Emily Collins, who will be a junior at Oklahoma this fall,
defeated former Winthrop golfer Rachel Smith 3 and 2 to complete the final pairing.
