UTSA women to compete at this weekend's Conference USA Indoor Championships
SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women's track & field program will return from a two-week hiatus this weekend when it competes at the Conference USA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day meet is scheduled to get underway on Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The pentathlon will be contested on the opening day along with field event finals in the long jump and weight throw. The 5,000 meters and distance medley relay finals also will take place on Friday, as will the remainder of running event preliminary heats. Multi-event competition will wrap up on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., the remaining field event finals begin two hours later and the track finals are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. (click here for the complete schedule).
The Roadrunners accounted for 116 points for their highest total in 17 years and just missed their first league title since 1994 in their first and only appearance at last season's Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. I-35 rival Texas State was able to hold off UTSA by a half dozen points, but the second-place showing was the program's best in 16 years.
The Roadrunners have registered five wins and set four program records through the season's first six meets.
UTSA has won a total of three conference team crowns and 57 individual/relay championships in its history.
