SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to get over .500 for the first time this season when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., this weekend for matches at Samford and UAB.
The Roadrunners will face the Bulldogs at noon on Saturday at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion and the Blazers at 11 a.m. the following day at George Ward Park.
UTSA (3-4) racked up two wins last weekend with sweeps against both Incarnate Word and Louisiana-Lafayette. The Roadrunners ran the table without dropping a set the entire weekend and they now have won three of their past four contests after starting the spring with three straight setbacks.
Isabelle Jonsson and Irene Gandara Gonzalez both have won four consecutive singles matches, while Jonsson has teamed up with Lina Hallgren for four straight wins at No. 3 doubles.
Samford (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season when it was swept by No. 21 Auburn last Sunday. The Bulldogs two wins this season came against Kennesaw State (7-0) and Middle Tennessee (6-1).
Meanwhile, UAB (2-3) picked up its second win of the season last Sunday with a 4-3 upset against No. 67 Northwestern State. It was the Blazers’ first victory against a ranked team since a 4-3 triumph against then-No. 74 Southern Mississippi on April 15, 2007.
