AUSTIN — Tesha Smith recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds in her first career game as a Roadrunner, but it wasn’t enough, as Texas got past UTSA by a score of 63-42 on Sunday in the regular season opener for both teams at the Frank Erwin Center.

Smith finished the day 3-for-5 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line for her team-high point total. Mannasha Bell pitched in with seven points and six rebounds.

Chassidy Fussell led the Longhorns with 18 points and Imani McGee-Stafford finished with 16 and 11 rebounds, as Texas shot 40 percent from the field (20-for-50).

The Longhorns scored the game's opening 11 points on the strength of back-to-back 3-pointers from Krystle Henderson and Fussell.

Mathilde Hergott broke the Roadrunners' scoreless streak with a layup at the 15:07 mark and the sophomore went on to score the team's first six points of the game, as UTSA shot just 19 percent in the first half.

McGee-Stanford accounted for 11 points and a half dozen rebounds and UT took a commanding 33-12 lead into the halftime break.

Smith helped the Roadrunners play even with the Longhorns in the second 20 minutes with eight points and seven rebounds.

UTSA will open the home portion of its 2013-14 schedule at 7 p.m. on Thursday against Lamar (0-1).
