Roadrunners finish in 14th place at Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Led by a nine-over-par 222 from Bryce Alley, the UTSA men’s golf team finished 14th at this week's Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, which concluded on Tuesday at New Mexico State University Golf Course (par 71/7,074 yards).
Alley, who opened the 54-hole tournament with an even-par 71 on Monday, carded a 72 in the final round en route to tying for 31st (71-79-72—222).
Ryan Werre finished one stroke behind Alley after leading UTSA's final-round showing with a 71 and the senior tied for 36th (76-76-71—223).
J.J. Lindsey's 72 on Tuesday helped move him into a tie for 42nd, one shot behind Werre at 224 (73-79-72).
Brett Hogan tied for 56th with a 227 (76-76-75) and Garrison Lackey carded a 229 (78-77-74) to tie for 67th to round out the UTSA lineup.
The Roadrunners entered the final round of their final fall tournament in 16th place but, on the strength of the final-round performances by Alley, Lindsey and Werre, leaped past a pair of teams with the fifth-best round of the day, a five-over 289. UTSA's 893 (296-308-289) scorecard was just one shot behind Sam Houston State for 13th and three back of Air Force (890).
New Mexico State led all teams with a six-over 858 (283-289-286) behind individual champion Brett Walker, who fired a six-under 207 (70-72-65). Colorado State (864), Northern Colorado (871), Wichita State (876) and UTEP (877) rounded out the top five teams.
The tournament concluded the Roadrunners' fall schedule and the team will return to the course in February when it hosts the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational (Feb. 10-11).
