Roadrunners tie for 11th place at Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational

AUSTIN — Led by a six-over-par 222 from Fabiola Arriaga, the UTSA women's golf team tied for 11th at the Betsy Rawls Longhorns Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at The University of Texas Golf Club (par 72/6,119 yards).

After opening the 54-hole event with a two-under 70 on Sunday, Arriaga carded back-to-back 76s en route to tying for 39th in the 94-player field. The senior from Torreon, Mexico, recorded 14 pars, three birdies and an eagle in finishing as the top Roadrunner for the second time this season.

Brogan Townend and Chelsea Bretcher were one and two shots behind Arriaga, respectivey.

Townend followed an opening-round 72 with a 75 and a 76 and she tied for 45th at seven-over 223.

Meanwhile, Bretcher rallied from an 80 on Sunday to post a 74 on Monday and the team's top final round score, a two-under 70, on Tuesday. The Austin native registered six birdies, the second-most among all tournament players, in tying for 48th at eight-over 224.

Taylor Newlin tied for 57th (75-78-73—226) and Libby Thomas tied for 82nd (75-84-76—235) to round out the UTSA top five.

The Roadrunners registered a seven-over 295 in the final round and finished at 890 (292-303-295) to tie TCU for 11th, two shots ahead of Texas. Top-ranked UCLA claimed the team crown with a 22-under 842 (281-286-275) behind individual medalist Alison Lee's 12-under 204 (69-68-67). The Bruins were followed by No. 8 Arizona State (848), Miami (859), Iowa State (862) and SMU (872).

Longhorn Network will air a two-hour broadcast of the tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Highlights from the first two rounds will air at 7 p.m., followed by final-round highlights an hour later. Click here to see if Longhorn Network is available in your area.

UTSA will wrap up its fall season in two weeks when it hosts The Alamo Invitational. The three-day event will get underway on Oct. 27 at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
