UTSA to hold scrimmage in New Braunfels on Saturday
SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s basketball team will provide a sneak preview of its upcoming season from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the McKenna New BraunFit Gym in New Braunfels.
Head coach Brooks Thompson will take the Roadrunners through a full practice and intrasquad scrimmage with an autograph session with players to follow. McKenna is the home gym for more than 300 second through eighth graders that participate in the Junior Roadrunners Basketball League.
"We're very pleased and fortunate to be able to support the efforts of the McKenna New BraunFit Gym," Thompson said. "Our hope is that those who participate in the Junior Roadrunners League not only develop a passion for the game of basketball, but to understand the value of education and physical fitness. In addition to preparing for our season, we're happy to give the league's members a look into our program and hopefully inspire them to continue their development on and off the court."
McKenna continues a successful partnership with San Antonio Sports and UTSA by offering the second annual UTSA Junior Roadrunners League. While the program focuses on basketball skill development, an equally important goal is to provide players with positive youth mentorship and character building experiences.
“Interacting with high-quality student-athletes will provide our Junior Roadrunners a unique glimpse into the payoff of pushing themselves to succeed in school and sports,” Director of New BraunFit Kristen Fain said. “Our players will see and feel what it’s like to experience sports at the collegiate level.”
The scrimmage will be free to the public as long as seating is available. McKenna New BraunFit is located at 801 West San Antonio Street.
