NORFOLK, Va. — Happy Orere-Amadu’s goal in the 53rd minute lifted UTSA to its first road victory of the season with a 2-1 triumph at Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon.
Orere-Amadu’s winner was her first of the campaign and it helped the Roadrunners improve to 3-9-1 overall (2-1-1 C-USA). Her three shots tied Kaytee O’Brien for tops on the squad, while Bubba Makela notched a pair of saves.
Meanwhile, the Lady Monarchs (1-9-1, 1-3 C-USA), who out-shot UTSA 17-12, got five saves from Meredith Lenox.
After being blanked on Friday night, the Roadrunners wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard and they grabbed the advantage in the eighth minute on Anissa Munson’s second goal of the season. The Helotes native dribbled her way into the penalty box and lined a shot past Lenox for the early lead.
However, Old Dominion struck back before halftime and knotted the score in the 35th minute when Alexis Thomas intercepted a UTSA pass and beat Makela for the equalizer.
UTSA bounced back shortly after the intermission and took the lead for good on Orere-Amadu’s strike in the 53rd minute.
O’Brien chipped a pass to the sprinting Orere-Amadu, who got behind the ODU defense and found the back of the net for the game winner.
The Lady Monarchs registered 12 shots over the final 37 minutes, but the UTSA defense held on for its third victory of the fall and second in league play.
The Roadrunners will conclude their three-match road swing on Friday, Oct. 11, with a 7 p.m. tilt at North Texas (7-5-1, 1-2-1 C-USA).
