NORMAN, Okla. — UTSA carded a 299 on Saturday at the NCAA Central Regional for a 54-hole score of 904 (302-303-299) and the Roadrunners finished in 17th place.

UTSA, which entered the three-day tournament as the 18th seed, was just one stroke behind 10th-seeded Iowa State and just three shots back of Wake Forest, who finished in 14th place.

Paola Valerio closed her collegiate career with a one-over-par 73 to tie for 30th at 221 (76-72-73). The Mexico City native opened on No. 10 and carded birdies on Nos. 12 and 15 to shoot two-under on the back nine.

Taylor Newlin matched Valerio’s effort on the back nine en route to an even-par 72 to finish tied for 62nd with a 226 (74-80-72). The 18-hole score was her best in nine career postseason rounds. Newlin opened her day with a birdie on No. 10 and moved to two-under-par with a birdie on No. 13.

Not far behind was Fabiola Arriaga, who tied for 73rd at 228 (74-75-79). The junior logged a team-high seven birdies during the regional, including birds on Nos. 3, 10 and 17 on Saturday.

Brogan Townend tied for 85th with a 231 (78-78-75), while fellow freshman Allie Johnston tied for 11th at 239 (82-78-79).

No. 3 Duke shot 12-under-par on the day to take the team title with an 851 (284-291-276) and Mississippi State's Ally McDonald fired a 10-under-par 206 (69-69-68) for the individual crown.

The tournament concluded a season that featured four top-five finishes and the school's first-ever at-large selection to an NCAA postseason event for any sport.
