Flannel named Western Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Whitney Flannel was tabbed Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Flannel recorded her second high jump title in as many weeks and moved to the top of the league leaderboard at last Saturday's Bobcats Classic. The sophomore cleared 5-9 ¼ (1.76m) for her second personal best in as many weeks and now is tied with Utah State's Chari Hawkins at the top of the conference standings. That was two inches better than the career best she established in winning the Longhorns Invitational crown on April 20. In fact, Flannel has improved by more than a half foot since opening the campaign with a mark of 5-3 (1.60m) at last month's Texas State Elite.
It marks the program's second weekly award this spring, as Ernestine Cray was honored two weeks ago.
UTSA will return to action next week at the WAC Championships in Arlington. The four-day meet is slated to begin on Wednesday, May 8.
