Roadrunners in third place after first two rounds of Western Athletic Conference Championship

MESA, Ariz. — No. 46 UTSA shot a 310 during Tuesday's second round of the Western Athletic Conference Championship and the Roadrunners moved to third place with a 607 (297-310).

UTSA will enter Wednesday’s final round trailing No. 29 Denver (295-291/586) and San Jose State (297-298/595). Meanwhile, the Roadrunners lead 38th-ranked Texas State (311-297/607) and Idaho (312-296/608) by a stroke with Seattle (306-306/612) and New Mexico State (312-316/628) rounding out the team standings.

Junior Fabiola Arriaga shaved two strokes off her first -round total to move into a tie for seventh place with a 150 (76-74). The Torreon, Mexico, native shot two-over par on the front nine before carding even on the back.

Fellow junior Taylor Newlin and freshman Allie Johnston are not far behind with a 152 to tie for 14th. Newlin followed up her first round 73 with a 79, while Johnston fired an 80.

Senior Paola Valerio recorded a birdie on No. 17 en route to a 77 that brought her 36-hole total to 153 (76-77) and a tie for 16th. Freshman Brogan Townend stands in a tie for 28th place with a 159 (79-80).

Denver’s Tonje Daffinrud will take a three-shot lead to the final round with a two-day total of 140 (68-72).

UTSA will tee off its final 18 holes at 10:50 a.m. (CT) on Wednesday.
