Half dozen Roadrunners post victories on Saturday
AUSTIN/HOUSTON — The UTSA women's track & field team received winning performances from six athletes on Saturday at a pair of meets.
Whitney Flannel led the way at the Longhorns Invitational with a career-high leap of 5-7 ¼ (1.71m) in the high jump. That performance vaulted her to fifth on the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) leaderboard.
Other Roadrunners that posted victories in Austin included Katie Bragg (hammer/171-10/52.83m), Gabby Galvan (discus/143-10/43.85m) and Laura Oseghae (triple jump/38-9/11.81m).
Meanwhile, Isabel Balbontin (5,000m) and Emily Perez (1,500m) both were victorious at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight in Houston. Balbontin clocked a personal-best 17:18.23 en route to the league's fifth-fastest performance this season, while Perez raced to a 4:37.10 to top the field of 28 middle distance runners.
All told, UTSA recorded a total of 18 podium finishes at the two meets.
The Roadrunners will return to action next weekend at the Bobcats Invitational in San Marcos. The two-day meet, which begins on Friday, April 26, will be the squad's final tune-up for the WAC Championships (May 8-11 in Arlington).
