SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will host Seattle in a three-game Western Athletic Conference series this weekend. The set begins with a 6 p.m. matchup on Friday and the teams will close out the series with a 4 p.m. doubleheader the following evening.

The Roadrunners (22-19, 5-7 WAC) are coming off a twinbill sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday. UTSA jumped out to a 9-0 lead on the strength of a career-high four RBIs from Samantha Beeson, which included a three-run home run, along with a two-run homer by Siera Sproul. Following the 9-1 run-rule victory, the Birds took game two by a score of 5-1 to sweep the season series with the Islanders.

Sproul now leads the team with six homers to go along with her career-best 19 RBIs. Meanwhile, Darian Blake has at least one hit in 13 of her last 14 contests to raise her average to a team-high .364. The Katy native, along with Sproul, lead the squad with 11 multi-hit games.

Pitchers Haylee Staton and Alyssa Vordenbaum picked up wins on Wednesday and lowered their ERA to 2.64 and 2.67, respectively. Staton’s ERA and her 86 strikeouts rank fifth in the conference, while the staff owns a collective 2.84 ERA.

The Redhawks (17-22, 6-6 WAC) come to the Alamo City following their three-game sweep of Utah State last weekend. Led by Isabella Geronimo’s .303 average, Seattle is batting .247 as a team and .236 in conference action. Bubba Morrow paces the club with a .368 average and Brittney Lott is batting .333 during the 12-game league slate. Richelle Ashburn owns a 10-10 record and 2.83 ERA in the circle to lead the pitching staff, which sports a collective 3.85 ERA.

The teams met for the first time last season and split a pair of games at the SpringHill Suites Invitational in Boise, Idaho. The Redhawks took the first meeting, 6-1, on March 23 before the Roadrunners took an 8-3 decision the following day.

Saturday’s doubleheader will serve as UTSA’s annual Strike Out Cancer event to raise money for the San Antonio Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of former Roadrunner Hope Ortiz. The event will feature a silent auction that begins at 3 p.m. and it will run through the fifth inning of the opener.
