NEW ORLEANS, La. — Garrett Gannizaro's grand slam helped Tulane score five runs in the first and the Green Wave rolled to an 8-3 victory against UTSA in Sunday's series finale in front of 1,917 fans at Turchin Stadium.

Tualne, which improved to 12-10 on the spring, saw its first hitters of the game score and the Green Wave chased Roadrunners starting pitcher Nolan Trabanino from the contest after Cannizaro's round-tripper.

UTSA (13-7) managed a run in the third on Horacio Correa III's RBI single.

However, Tulane answered a panel later with a three-spot on Sean Potkay's bloop double to right field.

The Birds started a rally in the sixth.

After RJ Perucki drew a leadoff walk and Tony Ramirez hit a one-out single, John Bormann laced a base hit to center, which scored Perucki. John Welborn then walked to load the bases and Rodney Garza hit a sacrifice fly, which pushed Ramirez across the plate. With the bases still juiced, Green Wave reliever Daniel Rankin forced Riley Good to ground out to Cannizaro at second, which ended the threat.

UTSA collected just one hit in the final three frames against both Rankin and Andrew Garner, who hurled a scoreless ninth.

Cannizaro and Potkay both were 2-for-3 with four RBIs to pace Tulane at the plate.

Meanwhile, Bormann and Correa III each tallied two hits and an RBI for the Roadrunners.

Green Wave starter David Napoli (1-1) earned the victory despite working on a predetermined pitch count. The left-hander gave up a run on three hits and fanned five, all looking, in three innings of work.

Trabanino (3-2) was saddled with the loss.

UTSA will wrap up its four-game road trip on Wednesday, March 20, at No. 19 Rice (14-7). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Reckling Park.
