SAN ANTONIO — UTSA's men's track & field team will look to continue its unprecedented run of success this weekend when it competes at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Indoor Championships. The three-day meet begins on Thursday morning at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

The first portion of the men's heptathlon will be contested on the opening day. The men will conclude multi-event competition on Friday beginning at noon (CT), the first field event finals begin two-and-a-half hours later and the track finals are scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The final day of action begins at noon with the field events and the remainder of the running event finals will start an hour later.

The Roadrunners closed out Southland Conference competition by winning a league-record seven consecutive championships from 2006-12 and they enter this week's event in search of an eighth straight title.

UTSA athletes/relays currently sit atop the WAC standings in five events (60m hurdles/distance medley relay/high jump/long jump/triple jump) and another six rank second. In fact, the Roadrunners have picked up a total of 14 gold medals and set a pair of school records through the season's first five meets.

Senior All-Americans Richard Garrett Jr. (shot put/10th) and Keith Benford (high jump/t-20th) and junior Kerry Thompson (high jump/t-24th) all rank among the top 25 nationally in their respective events.

Meanwhile, junior Mike Medrano and Garrett Jr. were tabbed WAC Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, on Wednesday, Feb. 6, following their performances at the Armory Collegiate Invitational.

UTSA has won a total of seven conference crowns and 62 individual/relay championships in its history.
