SAN ANTONIO — Ryan Werre tied for third place to lead UTSA to a fifth-place finish at this week's UTSA Oak Hills Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at Oak Hills Country Club (par 71/6,765 yards).

Werre carded a two-over-par 73 in the final round and finished the 54-hole event at a season-best-tying two-under 211. The junior from Redcliff, Alberta, and Iowa State's Scott Fernandez were just three strokes back of runner-up Rodolfo Cazaubon of North Texas, who shot 70-68-70—208, and five off the pace established by individual medalist Kyle Jones of Baylor, who turned in a tournament-low 67 on Tuesday to cap off a seven-under 206 (69-70 on Monday).

Meanwhile, the Roadrunners finished fifth in the team standings in a tight race among the top five squads, which were separated by just 11 strokes.

No. 44 Oklahoma (862) edged No. 36 North Texas (863) by one shot for the team crown after firing a four-over 288 on Tuesday, four better than the Mean Green’s 292. No. 40 Baylor was third (869), followed by No. 49 Wichita State (872), which held off UTSA by one stroke. No. 32 Tulsa was eight back of the Roadrunners in sixth place (881) in the 14-team field.

It marked the Roadrunners’ best UTSA Oak Hills Invitational finish since placing third in 2007 and it was their second consecutive top-five showing this season.

Garrison Lackey joined Werre in the top 10, as he tied for 10th at three-over 70-74-72—216. Brett Hogan carded a 76-72-77—225 to tie for 39th, while Stanton Tondre (71-79-76—226) and J.J. Lindsey (74-76-82—232) tied for 44th and 64th, respectively.

UTSA had five players compete as individuals, led by Mitchell Griffin (79-75-75—229) and Reed Stegall (76-76-77—229), who tied for 53rd. Taylor Koser tied for 67th (75-83-76—234), Martin Board tied for 69th (81-79-75—235) and Xabier Basanez tied for 81st (85-76-84—245).

The Roadrunners return to the course on Feb. 22-24 when they travel to Humble to compete in the Bayou City Collegiate Championship.
