SAN ANTONIO — Junior Miki Turner is in her first season at UTSA after spending the last two campaigns at Blinn College in Brenham. The Houston native averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game and was an NJCAA All-Region XIV honoree last season. Turner recently sat down with goUTSA.com to discuss her first months as a Roadrunner.

How are you adjusting to life at UTSA?
"Everything is going well so far. Workouts and when we do things are a little different than what I’m used to, but I’ve just been getting my timing down on everything and getting used to my new teammates."

How have the first few sessions of fall workouts been going since officially starting last week?
"We’ve been running a lot at the start to make sure our bodies are well-conditioned and in shape. For the most part, it’s been what I expected, which is a more difficult practice than what I’ve been through before. I see some similarities between the offense I ran the last two years and what we do here. There are some similarities, but a lot of differences, as well. I’m just trying to adjust and learn new things to better the team and myself."

What are you studying and what do you hope to do with your degree in the future?
"Kinesiology. I want to coach, possibly at the high school level, and maybe teach physical education classes. I’ve wanted to coach since I started playing basketball."

What do you think are some of your biggest strengths on the court?
"Last year, it was my defense and that’s something I try to work hard on. It is something that I take great pride in and something that I really enjoy. I like taking charges and, last year, I spent a lot of time on getting better at that. I also like to attack the rim and make sure everyone is where they’re supposed to be on the court."

Why did you choose UTSA?
"Well, my parents like to ask a lot of questions, but when we came on my visit, the staff had already answered everything they had. We were impressed by that. Everybody is very friendly here and I especially enjoyed talking with the coaching staff. I also got a chance to meet some of the team on my visit and they were really nice. The coaching staff put a big emphasis on academics and that is something that is very important to me."

What are some of your personal and team goals for the season?
"Personally, I’d like to get a lot better with my left hand and improve my shooting and defense. As far as the team goes, I just want us to go out, play hard and win."
